Slingshots and the Weapons Act
Legal Classification of Slingshots
The legal handling of slingshots in Germany is governed by the Weapons Act (WaffG) and its annexes. The crucial factor is not the designation, but the specific design of the slingshot.
This page provides a factual representation of the current legal situation and does not substitute legal advice.
Precision Slingshots under the Weapons Act
Under the German Weapons Act, so-called precision slingshots are prohibited.
Prohibited are according to:
-
Annex 1 to the WaffG, Section 1, Subsection 2, Number 1.3
-
and Annex 2, Section 1, Number 1.3.7
all precision slingshots.
What counts as a precision slingshot?
Precision slingshots are slingshots,
-
that feature stabilization devices
-
especially arm braces / forearm rests
-
or comparable constructions that increase aiming and hitting precision
These designs are prohibited regardless of their actual use.

The image above shows a so-called precision slingshot. An arm brace is mounted on the handle, making this slingshot prohibited in Germany.
Legal Consequences for Prohibited Slingshots
For prohibited precision slingshots, the following applies:
-
❌ Possession is prohibited
-
❌ Acquisition is prohibited
-
❌ Manufacturing is prohibited
-
❌ Trading is prohibited
A violation can lead to criminal consequences.
Permitted Slingshots
Slingshots without the prohibited features mentioned above (especially without an arm brace or comparable precision aids) do not fall under the prohibition of precision slingshots.
The possession of such slingshots is permitted under current law.
